Being there in spirit.

When we cannot attend an event some of us use the phrase "I'll be there in spirit." I never put much thought into this phrase before until I arrived here in Spain. Unfortunately, life goes on even though you're on the other side of the world and think that nothing will happen until you come back.

-I've already missed my dad's 50th birthday. 50TH!!! That's like the big 5-0 celebration...
-I will be missing my brother's high school graduation, moving into the dorms, and just how his first year of college will turn out to be.
-I will also miss my little cousin's 6th grade graduation and won't get to bother him about going to middle school dances and getting all dressed up with DATES...
-I've already missed one of my best friend's graduation (sorry Mai Mai) and will be missing my other best friend's graduation as well (sorry gramps)... [yes, college graduation]
-I found out that one of my really close friends, actually my first friend that I made in the United States, will be getting engaged! OMG!
-I will miss Thanksgiving with the familia once again... at least last year there was Thanksgiving food. And that being said, I will be missing BLACK FRIDAY for the 2nd time as well...
-I get to miss my "lil sis" experience as an RA and seeing her influence so many incoming freshmen.
-And countless other events/celebrations/stuff that I won't be a part of .

I mean, I don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer but you know this is true for all of us out in the "planting-fields..." Like, of course I knew that I would be missing all these things, but now that these events are slowly approaching, it has been slowly hitting me that I won't be part of any. But nevertheless, this is all I can say: I WILL BE THERE IN SPIRIT.

And to all my friends, you better have a LIGHT CROWN WITH A CRESCENT GREEN PIECE IN IT WHENEVER YOU'RE CELEBRATING SOMETHING!
