Happy 2 Month Anniv. to Me!

So today marks exactly 2 months since I've arrived to San Sebastian... 19 more to go! haha
Here are some observations/lessoned learned/random facts that amount to 2 months worth of things:

1) Basque people look alike. I'm not even kidding, you people say us asian people look the same, but come here and you'll think
everyone over here is related.
2) Basque language sounds nothing like spanish. Kaixo (pronounced kaisho) does not sound anything like Hola and Agur does not sound anything like Adios! You know what I'm sayin'?
3) It's weird if I don't go to the beach or pass by it in a daily basis... yes, I do go to the beach or pass by it almost every day, so what! Jealous?
4) People stare at me like I'm the 8th world wonder... well I do have that effect on people haha!
5) My job here pretty much entails every single job/activity I had back at home... from RA to Extension/Comm Club to
SPOP to Gamma Phi stuff to ASUCI and I can go on. Yes pretty much everything I did for any position I've had at school, I do it for my job. Like what you ask? Well flyering (all my organizations), conversations with the people I teach English to (feels exactly like formal recruitment aka rush for Gphi), planning weekends (planning programs for RA), etc...
6) I can go 2 months without eating or craving Kimchi! Can you believe that? I do crave Korean bbq and other stuff but not Kimchi!
7) I've learned how to cook... well, kin
da because I still don't know how to make rice without a rice cooker!
8) I can build Ikea furniture ALL BY MYSELF!
9) I have become a very patient person, well at least more patient than I was before.
10) I can eat almost a whole baguette!
11) There have been multiple tim
e that I've wanted to pack my bags and go home, but then I remember that I'm not doing this for me but for the Big G.
12) I have become very very VERY optimistic... and you thought I was already optimistic! It can only get better right?
13) I used to love the cold, but now I hate it! I miss the weather in SoCal!
14) Sometimes I wish I was still @ UCI... I miss
it so much!
15) There are no days that I don't think about my family/friends...
16) Disneyland :( I miss it too
17) If I had money to spare, I'd go shopping every day. I love the stores here! Not only clothing stores, but Pier-1 type stores and FOOOD!
18) People go to the groceries here at least 3 times a week. Crazy huh? Well not really. I started to go grocery shopping at least twice a week or so. In times like this, I miss my car and COSTCO! There is a grocery store nearby, but I like the big Target/Walmart-like store which takes 30 minutes by bus. And to bring all the groceries back is another story... ugh
19) Dogs are treated like people here...
20) People have no shame here... Old men peeing along the sidewalk, people wearing their birthday suite on the beach o
r while riding the bikes, guys straight up trying to holler at
you... yea, very interesting.
21) I think I grew, in height! haha I don't know, I feel taller sometimes!
22) San Sebastian is very beautiful, the beach here is ranked as the prettiest beach in all of Europe! No joke!
23) Whenever I
hear people speaking in English (American Engl
ish) I always want to go up to them and say hi and become friends with them. It's so cool hearing English in this place... Yes, I know, I'm desperate for friends that speak English.
24) I don't know what the big deal is about me being able to speak different languages. People here and other parts of the world speak other languages too!
25) Introducing myself to other people is probably the most complicated thing ever! Born in Bolivia, but moved to California, oh wait, but my parents are Korean, that's why I look Asia, but now I'm here for 2 years... Comprende? It's not your average, "Hi, my name is Esther and I'm from California." I have to explain my whole life history.
26) Though Basque people look very cold, once you start talking to them they are actually really nice and even admit that they are very cold
people.
27) I've learned that glass of wine/beer is cheaper than a glass of coke over
here, and people drink wine as if it were water! That's why I miss the refills of soda! A glass of coke is more like a half a glass of coke!
28) People here eat their meat pretty much raw... actually it's pretty good! Yummm I want some chuleta right now!
29) The weather here is unpredictable... One day is sunny and the other is rainy or hailing!
30) I've learned so much about life in the past 2 months here and grew so much in the L. and i want to continue learning and growing...

OK, 30 bullet points is a little excessive. I could go on and on, but I will leave that for my 3 month anniv.
